Michael Moyer is a seasoned sailor from Newport Beach, USA, with an impressive 74,000 nautical miles of sailing experience, out of which 8,000 were single-handed.
As a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Globe 5.80 Transat.
Missing the starting line of the inaugural 5.80 Transat was a huge disappointment for me. This time, the boat is 100% complete, and WILL BE shipped early. I have been waiting almost three years for this great adventure, let’s go already!
Michael was immediately drawn to the concept of like-minded sailors building and sailing to the best of their abilities, all on a level playing field. He is the proud owner and skipper of Sunbear, hull number 79.

For Michael, the best part of the race is the personal test of mettle, building his own boat, and sailing across a well-known body of water, with family and friends cheering him on. However, he admits that the worst part of the competition was the countless hours spent hand sanding, which he describes as an arduous task.
I believe I now have a doctorate in hand sanding: I have no idea the hundreds of hours spent hand sanding!

Michael chronicles his journey and progress on his blog, hull79.blogspot.com, where he shares his experiences and insights with fellow builders. With his skills, experience, and determination, Michael is sure to give his competitors a run for their money in the Globe 5.80 Transat.
